Speaking is one of the four core language learning skills, which can be further broken down into pronunciation and fluency. The key to achieving fluency in your target language (TL) is to work on and improve both aspects of your speaking. Pronunciation is a crucial part of language learning. The true definition for pronunciation is "the way in which a word is pronounced". But, the way I like to explain pronunciation is that it allows for effective communication with others. It also helps with comprehension and builds confidence in your TL.

Accurate pronunciation is crucial for effective communication. A single mispronounced word could completely alter your intended message! Mastering the ability to articulate words and sentences correctly allows for clear understanding without any difficulties. One way to improve pronunciation is to listen to native speakers and mimic their speech patterns, this technique is known as shadowing. Another useful way for improvement is to practice talking in different parts of your mouth. Many languages are spoken using different parts of the mouth. So, mastering the correct use of the mouth, throat, etc, is vital for improving pronunciation and achieving a more native-like accent.

Fluency is the ability to speak or write a foreign language easily and accurately. One of the biggest problems people face when trying to learn a language is the inability to produce words and sentences at a normal speed (like in their native language). A great and simple way to work on this problem is to always speak in full sentences. You can't improve if you're always giving the shortest answers possible. Another way to combat this problem is to learn filler words! To learn more about filler words, click here!
